In 2011 WR-Racing is building an all new car and entering ONLY in the NDR Ultimate Speed class in Akron. We respectfully acknowledge that our knowledge of high speed wheels is non-existent and so it is our goal to compete in the NDR event this year and finally have some fun racing again.

I encourage anyone with a passion for designing and building a unique gravity powered racer to rise to the challenge and enter this race. For those of us who built Derby cars as kids before the kit car program came along, we know the challenge and the thrill of seeing how imaginative we can be in constructing a competitive racer.

This NDR event should take wheels out of the equation and make the race soley about the car and the driver.  For anyone wanting to participate in a wheel race, the AA USC event is still alive and kicking and I will certainly be there to watch and to cheer for my favorites.

But the NDR event will be more about fairness without taking creativity out of the equation and that is what has always interested me most about gravity powered racing. In this sport it is simply the builder and the driver versus friction and gravity. What could be purer or sweeter than that??

Can you say "Concrete forming tube"?

I should ask "Quikrete" to sponsor us.

Can you picture this tube covered with stucco?

Check out the "fish tail".

Looks "swim-ingly" doesn't it?

Looking at the above picture, the tail is to the right. the wheelbase is 52" and the body is yet to be constructed. The nose will extend [far left]. You'll have to imagine it. The chassis is made of 1" square tubing sandwiched between 1/4" X 5" steel plates with the inside of the box to be lined with lead. The tail will support 75 pounds of steel plates.

All this is necessary because my driver, Elias Markley, is only 12 years old and weighs a mere 82 pounds. If anyone can recommend a couple of bodybuilders who would like to be car handlers/crew members, have them contact me.
